Google has a new interface and it is UGLY !!

The Google’s new interface (the one with the blue buttons) was in their testing phase for quite some time and it looks like they have finally implemented it at http://google.com. From the first looks the new interface is ugly and personally i do not like it. I am posting the screenshots below for everyone.

Now if Google can hear this.. please bring the old interface back…

Google’s New Year’s Easter egg.

Google has yet another Easter egg for us. This time they are wishing us a Happy New Year in an animated way.
To see this Easter Egg simply just click on the “I am feeling Lucky” button with a blank search field and voila you have the Easter Egg. Just in case you miss it i am attaching a screenshot for you.
This animation runs indefinitely so you can just see random “Happy New Year” appearing all over the screen forever

Google vs Microsoft

So Google and Microsoft are fighting with each other all the time now. With the upcoming launch of Google’s Chrome OS next week its like Google Dropped a nuclear bomb on Microsoft.
Not only that Google has also declared Microsoft to be the Devil . Don’t believe me… see for yourselves
But its just one side of the story. Microsoft seems to hate Google in the same way as well. Yeah people Bing (Microsoft’s search engine) preaches Google is Evil too.
Hey Wait… how can we forget Yahoo. Let us see what they say to all this.

Google Doodle for Children’s Day

Google has selected the Google Doodle for Children’s Day (the 14th nov). This Doodle was made by a 4th grader and seriously it is pretty good.
This doodle will be shown throughout the day at google.co.in . There are many other really great doodle’s submitted by students. You can check them here
Google is giving a Laptop as prize to the winner doodle creator and Rs. 100,000 as technology grant to the school.
Android Developer Phone 2 / GOOGLE ION

Google gave away the new Android Developer Phone (The HTC Magic ) at the Google I/O Developer Conference at San Francisco . They are now also offering the same phone at the Android Marketplace in the developer section (you need to pay $25 to become a developer) .
Some of the features in this “unlocked” version of the phone are as follows in the following pictures.
Now all the features are almost similar to the original HTC Magic except that the Phone has a lesser RAM . The screenshot taken from HTC product page says the HTC magic has 288 MB RAM but Google ION has 192 MB RAM
Also some say there is a difference in UMTS frequency of both the phones. but it hardly matters to me.
But the most interesting features in Google ION / HTC Magic which makes it a must have phone
- Root Access to the Phone –> go ahead install the Cyanogen MOD and get the features you always wanted in your HTC Magic
- The capacitive touch screen
- No keyboard so it is sleek as compared to ADP 1 / HTC Dream / T-Mobile G1
- Better Battery Life than G1
Pricing : Google ION is available for $399 from Android Developer Center. Shipping is free for USA only. For other countries you need to pay shipping and tax as well. For example Total Cost of Shipping and Handling (including taxes) to India is $107 .So you need to pay $506 to buy the phone. On the other hand the HTC Magic(unlocked) is also available for Rs. 23000 ($500) from ebay india.
Final Notes : It is a decent phone and if you want an android phone that is not much costly this phone is what you are looking for

Some folks at google plex decided its time to develop a new programming language which would be better than C and C++ . So they came out with
The Go Programming Language
a systems programming language expressive, concurrent, garbage-collected
Go was born out of frustration with existing languages and environments for systems programming. Programming had become too difficult and the choice of languages was partly to blame. One had to choose either efficient compilation, efficient execution, or ease of programming; all three were not available in the same mainstream language. Programmers who could were choosing ease over safety and efficiency by moving to dynamically typed languages such as Python and JavaScript rather than C++ or, to a lesser extent, Java.
Go is an attempt to combine the ease of programming of an interpreted, dynamically typed language with the efficiency and safety of a statically typed, compiled language. It also aims to be modern, with support for networked and multicore computing. Finally, it is intended to be fast: it should take at most a few seconds to build a large executable on a single computer. To meet these goals required addressing a number of linguistic issues: an expressive but lightweight type system; concurrency and garbage collection; rigid dependency specification; and so on. These cannot be addressed well by libraries or tools; a new language was called for. [Language design FAQ]
